For gutter cleaners

Gutter work is sold by the weather. So is the advertising.

Nobody thinks about their gutters until water is coming over the front of them in a downpour, or the leaves have finally stopped falling. Demand in this trade arrives in bursts, and the businesses that do well are the ones visible during the burst rather than the month after it.

The economics

Low ticket work means the lead cost has to be right.

A gutter clear is not a big job. That single fact changes how the campaign has to be built, because there is far less room between what you charge and what a wasted click costs than there is in roof or render work.

Run loosely, this trade bleeds money quietly. Bid on "gutters" without a tight negative list and you will pay premium prices for people wanting gutters replaced, gutter guards fitted, a leak traced or a downpipe repaired — all searched in almost identical language, all far more expensive to win, and none of them a job you are quoting for.

Done properly the maths works the other way. Gutter enquiries are cheap to win compared with most trades, they convert quickly because the problem is visible and annoying, and they put you on a street you can come back to.

Timing

Bid harder when the rain is coming.

This is the one trade where the weather forecast is a marketing tool. Searches for gutter clearing climb sharply during and immediately after heavy rain, because that is the moment somebody stands at the window and watches water sheeting off the front of the house.

Autumn does the same thing more slowly. Once the leaves are down and the first proper downpour arrives, the phone rings for a fortnight and then it goes quiet again. Spring brings a second, smaller run from people getting the house sorted.

A campaign left on a flat daily budget misses most of that. It underspends through the burst, when you could take every job going, and then keeps spending through the dead weeks. We push budget into the peaks and pull it back between them, so your money is in the market when the market exists.

Targeting

What we bid on, and what we block.

Gutter searches sit right next to several much more expensive ones. Getting the exclusions right matters more here than in almost any other exterior trade, because the margins are thinner.

IN
The searches we wantGutter cleaning and clearing with local intent, blocked and overflowing gutters, vacuum gutter clearing, fascia and soffit cleaning, and the after-the-rain urgency searches.
OUT
Repair, replacement and installationNew guttering, replacement downpipes, leaking joints, guttering fitted, and anyone pricing up a full new system. Different trade, much higher click cost.
OUT
Gutter guards and productsGuard installers, mesh, brushes, covers and the whole product-buying world. Heavily advertised, expensive clicks, and they are trying to avoid ever needing you.
OUT
Kit, hire and DIYGutter vacuums, poles, ladders, equipment hire and how-to searches. A big share of this trade's search volume and none of it books a job.
OUT
Jobs and franchisesPeople looking for gutter cleaning work, courses or a franchise to buy. Frequent, cheap to exclude, and pure waste if you do not.
Routing

Three houses on one street beats three across the county.

On a job this size, travel is the thing that decides whether the day was worth doing. An hour each way for one gutter clear is a bad day regardless of what the lead cost.

So we do not bid evenly across a radius. Bids get weighted towards the postcodes where you already have work booked and towards the areas whose housing stock suits you, which pulls enquiries into clusters you can do in one run rather than scattering them across the map.

It also plays to the strongest thing this trade has going for it: neighbours notice. A van parked up doing gutters on a terrace tends to produce the house next door, and the campaign is set up to reinforce that rather than fight it.

Our process

How we build your campaign.

01
Price point and radiusWhat you charge for a standard semi, your minimum job, and how far it is worth travelling. On low ticket work this sets everything.
02
Build with the exclusions in placeRepair, installation, guards, kit and jobs all excluded before you spend anything, rather than discovered in month two.
03
Copy that removes the ladder worryGround-based vacuum clearing, insurance, camera footage and same-week availability written into the ads, because that is what people are actually weighing up.
04
CRM and quick responseEnquiries land in your portal instantly. On a job people want doing this week, being the first to ring back wins more work than being the cheapest.
05
Weather and season managementBudget pushed into the autumn run and the wet spells, pulled back through the quiet middle, with search terms reviewed weekly.

  • CRM access with accept and reject, booking calendar and review chaser
  • Weekly optimisation and a person who answers the phone
Alongside it

What else works for gutter cleaners.

Search is where we would start. These three fill the gaps between the bursts, which matters more in a trade this seasonal.

01
Facebook and Instagram AdsGutter camera footage is oddly compelling and it creates demand rather than waiting for it. Useful for filling the quiet months when nobody is searching because it has not rained.
02
Social media postingLocal Facebook is where people ask for recommendations for exactly this kind of job. An active page is what gets you tagged in those threads instead of somebody else.
03
Google Business Profile postingFor a job people want done this week, the map pack is often the first thing they look at. Staying active in it costs nothing per click.

Running more than one together is usually cheaper than buying them separately. Ask about the combined rate on your call.

Questions

Gutter cleaners usually ask us this.

Q
Is the job value high enough to make ads worth it?On its own it is marginal in some areas, which is exactly why the negatives and the postcode weighting matter so much. It becomes comfortably worth it once you are clustering jobs and adding fascia, soffit or roof work to the same visit.
Q
I keep getting calls about broken guttering. That is a negative keyword gap and it is the most common one in this trade. Repair, leak, replacement and installation language gets excluded before launch and topped up weekly.
Q
Should I switch the ads off in summer?Turn them down rather than off. Switching off resets the campaign learning and you lose the run-in to autumn, which is when the cheap clicks are.
Q
Can you push a specific area?Yes. If you have a street or an estate where you already have work, we can weight bids towards it so the next enquiries come from nearby.
Q
Do you take on more than one gutter cleaner locally? No. One business per trade per area. It is worth checking early whether your patch is still open.
